Xiaomi Leading Smartphone With 28% Market Share

Counterpoint Research said that with the market share of 27%, Chinese handset manufacturer Xiaomi acquired a clear edge on Samsung, which had a 22% share in the Indian smartphone shipments in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Xiaomi also dominated CY2018 with a market share of 28%, while Samsung grabbed 24% shares in the same period when India's overall smartphone shipments increased by 10%.

"India is just behind China in the smartphone market. It has exceeded just 430 million smartphone users. However, this potential number for smartphones is only 45% of the qualified market; In a statement, Karan Chauhan, Research Analyst, Counterpoint Research, said, "India is short of relative to many other markets.

In the fourth quarter of 2018, with Vivo, 9% market share among other top smartphone players, the new player was about 8% share in stock and Oppo with 7% share.

"We saw that the major players are acquiring the shares while the small brands have fallen out of the market in the form of competition. However, this does not mean there is no room for new players. Overall, India's mobile phone shipments crossed 330 million units for the first time, in which 2018 smartphone consumption was captured about 44% of the total volume.
